The requirements for the current renewal cycle.
All licensed contractors must complete 6 hours of continuing education each renewal cycle (every odd year).
At least 3 of your 6 hours must be classified as "core" credit hours. All AGC classes meet this requirement.
Licenses must be renewed by November 30th of odd-numbered years. This cycle’s deadline is November 30, 2027 — 471 days away.
DOPL requires at least half your hours be completed in a live setting. Our webinars are instructor-led and count as live.
HVAC contractors — licensed as H100, the designation the state previously issued as S350 — must take 3 hours (of their 6 hours of CE) which is directly related to the installation, repair, or replacement of a heating, ventilation, or air conditioning system. These three hours are Core hours required by the state. Some DOPL materials still use the older S350 code; the CE requirement is the same either way.
S330 (Landscape and Recreation) and S410 (Boiler, Pipeline, Waste Water, and Water Conditioner) licensees that actively work with and install backflow prevention devices may have additional CE required as well.
All H100 license holders are now required to obtain a gas technician certification before November 30, 2027. Contractors grandfathered in under the former S350 designation are exempt. This is a state licensing requirement, separate from your continuing education hours.

If you hold a valid '-5501' license issued before January 1, 2027, you need continuing education for this cycle. If your license was issued during 2027, DOPL sets your first expiration in 2029 — you can skip this round. DOPL also emails renewal reminders.

Yes, everyone that holds a contractor license in the state of Utah is obligated to complete 6 hours of continuing education each licensing period (every odd year). We offer a variety of courses including safety training, project management, and technical skills development.

At present, DOPL is requiring that at least half your hours be completed in a live setting. Our webinars are led by a live instructor, and as a result will count as a live course for your hours.
Courses can be rescheduled with 24 hours notice and may incur a fee. If a student fails to attend a session we do not offer refunds or reimbursement of any kind. Likewise for partially missed sessions, we will upload credit hours in alignment with when the student was present and any missing time can be made up at a later date which may incur a rescheduling fee.
All contractors in the state of Utah are required to renew their license before November 30th of odd-numbered years — November 30, 2027 for the current cycle. If your license number ends in a '-5501' you are required to renew this cycle.
If you miss the renewal deadline, your license will expire and you will not be legally permitted to perform contracting work. Reinstating an expired license may require additional fees, paperwork, and potentially retaking exams. It's always best to renew well before the deadline.
You'll need to complete your 6 hours of approved continuing education, then visit the DOPL website to submit your renewal and pay the state renewal fee. We report your CE completion directly to DOPL, so your hours should appear automatically in their system.
Start by enrolling in and completing your required CE hours through AGC of Utah. Once your hours are reported, visit the DOPL renewal portal to finalize. If you're not sure where to begin, give us a call at 801-274-3551 and we'll walk you through it.
DOPL sends renewal reminders via email, but not receiving one does not exempt you from the renewal requirement. Check that your contact information is current with DOPL, and verify your renewal status directly on their website. When in doubt, contact us — we can help you figure out whether you need to renew.
The DOPL renewal portal will ask you to confirm that you've completed your required continuing education hours. As long as you've finished your classes with us, you can confirm that your hours are complete — we report directly to DOPL on your behalf.
